Strong fixation, a high rate of engraftment and a low probability of complications are what have made Xive implants one of the most popular systems in the world. The brand is manufactured by Dentsply Sirona, an international group of leading manufacturers of dental products. Dentsply Sirona invests part of its profits in scientific research, all developments are confirmed by studies and scientific publications. The production of Xive implants in Germany is under the control of the European Commission, all products are subject to European certification.

Features of the Xive system

  • The cylindrical shape of the post and a special, patented thread provide high primary (mechanical) stability;
  • Friadent plus surface promotes high adhesion of bone cells, increasing secondary (biological) stability;
  • the extended shoulder of the implant facilitates prosthetic treatment by closing the gap between the bone and the post;
  • suitable for two-stage, one-stage and transgingival implantation;
  • supports cement, screw and attachment fixation;
  • is used for functional and non-functional restorations;
  • facilitates abutment positioning with six positioning options.

Xive implant features

Xive implant sizes

The manufacturer currently produces the Xive implants in the S and TG series.

The S series includes implants with diameters of 3.0/3.4/3.8/4.5 and 5.5 mm. The length varies from 8 to 18 mm. These posts can be used for classic or single-stage protocols.

Xyve TG and s series implants

The TG series is designed for transgingival (through a puncture in the gingiva) implantation. Also, these implants can be placed immediately after tooth extraction. The diameter of these posts is 3.4/3.8/4.5 mm. The length ranges from 8 to 15 mm. The possibilities of the TG series are broader than those of the S series. These implants are suitable for All-on-4, All-on-6 protocols, single restorations, also in the case of terminal defects.

Restorative possibilities

Orthopedists like working with Xive implants because they offer many options for prosthetic restorations.

The TempBase concept makes it possible to use fixed temporary prostheses for both single and complex restorations.

The Xive system has unusual abutments – the transition pieces on which the crown is placed. Some of them utilizePlatform-Switch technology. They are thinner at the neck than the diameter of the post, matching its internal diameter. This eliminates gaps between abutment and post, minimizing microleakage and the risk of infection.

Xive platform switching

This design allows for soft tissue growth, creating a better gingival profile. It also reduces bone atrophy around the implant [1].

Types of abutments

Clinicians and engineers have developed an evidence-based series of abutments that are suitable for Xyve implants:

Designed for single restorations and bridges, these products can be trimmed to fit the individual patient.

Zirconia products for frontal areas. Does not show through the crown and does not form a dark rim around the gingiva. Highly durable.

Ceramic two-component abutment for anterior teeth. The sleeve is attached to the titanium base.

Designed for complex clinical cases with a high volume of individual work.

Platform-switching abutment for bridges and bar prostheses. Adjustable to the height of the gingiva.

  • Friadent telescopic abutment

Used in the fabrication of removable and fixed structures with telescopic retention. Suitable for single restorations.

Provides simple but secure retention of removable prostheses on implants.

  • Friadent Ball Abutment

Designed for retention of lower jaw prostheses. Compensates for the divergent axes of the implants.

Customized abutments

The manufacturer of Xive implants has made it possible to produce customized abutments. The titanium base of these products is standard, while the upper part is customized for each patient. These are the TitaniumBase, ScanBase, Atlantis series abutments.

xive custom abutments

Gingiva shapers are produced for each implant series. They are designed to form a gingival contour identical to the natural one.

Fixation methods

Suitable for EsteticBase, AuroBase, TitaniumBase, Cercon, CeraBase abutments.

On the Friadent MP universal abutment.

Cement and screw fixation of the dental bridge

  • On attachments

Ball abutments and Locator are used for this type of fixation.

Xive implantation has some limitations. The length of the implants does not allow implantation into the cortical layers. In case of significant bone loss, bone grafting is necessary. This lengthens the implantation time and in case of rejection can be a contraindication to surgery at all.

The advantages of the Xive system are high engraftment rate [2]The advantage of the Xive system is its high grafting rate [2], German quality and cost. Dentsply Sirona ranks 3rd in the world manufacturer ranking. At the same time, Xive is an implant in the middle price category. This explains the high demand for implants of this brand.

At the same time, studies show that Smoking and periodontal disease reduce the success rate [3] of these implants.

Xive implants are available in many clinics, but it should be remembered that the final choice of implant system is left to the physician. The implantologist relies on the diagnostic results, clinical picture, takes into account comorbidities before deciding on the brand and type of implant.
