Among the countries that produce implants, Germany takes one of the leading places, primarily because the manufacturers rely on a strong scientific base. Scientists develop new types of surfaces, threads, and shapes of implants to increase the level of engraftment and accelerate osseointegration. Reputable medical journals regularly publish research data that confirm a high percentage of successful engraftment.
There are several types of German implants on the Russian dental market.
Impro
The German Impro implant system is designed to meet all demands of dentists and patients. More than 50 models, including super-short, 7mm. Various models of abutments, with which you can use any type of fixation: cement, screw, magnetic, cement-screw.
The main advantage of this company’s systems is the ability to install implants simultaneously with sinus lifting.
These products have:
- innovative SuperH surface promotes osseointegration;
- the combination of micro and macro threads seals the tissue already during implantation;
- the cone-shaped head with microthreading allows the post to be used even in thin bone (1-2 mm);
- the variety of abutments opens up a wide range of prosthetic possibilities;
- the design of the post favors even load distribution.
Impro implants can be placed immediately after tooth extraction, without waiting for the healing of the hole.
Impro implants are German quality at a mid-range cost.
The disadvantages include the fact that the company does not use sandblasting to increase primary stability. The surface of the implants is not as rough as that of premium brands. It is not enriched with phosphorus or fluoride. The degree of surface hydrophilicity is medium. On the other hand, studies of the surface cleanliness of this brand of implants show an absolute absence of microflora and extremely precise geometry of the products [1].
ICX
ICX implants are not so widely known in Russia. Nevertheless, the brand ranks 4th among implant manufacturers in Germany. And supplies products to 40 countries around the world.
For what dentists recommend ICX:
- The model range is small, but it has implants for most clinical cases. Products are available for anterior and molars, posts for use with significant bone loss and thin alveolar ridges.
- Active Liquid surface accelerates osseointegration by 2 times due to increased hydrophilicity.
- The beveled, rough shoulder of the implant provides primary stability in the alveolar ridge and rapid soft tissue growth.
- Each post utilizes 3 types of threads: self-tapping apical threads, condensation threads in the middle portion, and micro-threads in the neck. This combination seals the bone tissue during insertion, provides stability during engraftment, and distributes pressure evenly during immediate loading.
Disadvantages of the system: the production of only 5 models limits the scope of application.
Semados
Semado is a German-made implant from Bego. The distinctive feature of Bego products is the orientation on digital technologies. This company was the first to apply CAD/CAM technology, and now actively distributes its own 3D printer Varseo for solving dental problems. Semados implants have been recognized as the best in Europe in the category “Production Safety”.
Scientific studies have confirmed that the implant engraftment rate of Semados implants remains at the same level after 5 and 9 years [2] after surgery.
The range of models is limited, but there are implants for one-stage and two-stage protocols, mini implants and pins for loose bone.
The focus on digital technologies limits the use of German Semados implants in Russia. Only in large cities there are clinics that have high-tech equipment to work with this system.
The following 2 brands entered the Russian dental practice as German ones. They continue to be called so, although, technically, they have already become international. As a result of several mergers, Ankylos and Xive implants are now manufactured by Dentsply Sirona.
Ankylos
Back in 1985, Ankylos implants revolutionized implantology in a small way. The abutment (base for the crown) and the implant itself were inserted into each other to form a single system. This design has no gaps, which means that pathogenic microbes cannot penetrate. The basic idea has remained the brand’s trademark, but has been supplemented with new developments – the TissueCare concept.
Ankylos manufacturers decided to pay special attention to soft tissues. All innovations are aimed at the fact that implantation stimulates their growth:
- The post design in combination with the concave abutment provides the ideal space for bone and soft tissue growth and preservation.
- The sandblasted and acid-etched surface increases the bonding area. This accelerates osseointegration.
- The special thread facilitates insertion and maintains the height of the alveolar ridge/.

The disadvantages of the brand’s products include the need for special training, relatively high cost, as well as limitations of models in terms of length and diameter combination. for example, the implant with the largest diameter of 7 mm does not have a model longer than 14 mm. This somewhat limits the installation options.
Xive
German dental implants Xive are characterized by high level of engraftment [4] in their product class. The special thread design ensures primary stability even with significant bone loss.
Advantages:
- Can be used for all types of prosthetics. Single posts, bridges or full jaws – any type of prosthetic treatment is available.
- Suitable for single-stage implantation. Implantation into the cavity of an extracted tooth prevents bone loss and allows immediate use of temporary dentures.
- Preserves the gum contour. The smooth implant neck and the special abutment design give the gum a natural look.
The thread on the post becomes tighter in the cortical part. This guarantees optimal stability. The varieties of abutments help to choose the right one for temporary and permanent crowns.
The disadvantages of the system include the fact that it is not so well known in the regions. It is difficult to find a dentist in the countryside who offers the installation of implants of this brand.
What to choose?
In the rating of German implants Ankylos and Xive are in first place. This is due to the quality of products and convenience of work, but also due to the fact that little is known about other manufacturers. In terms of cost, the products of these companies also occupy the first lines. So far, the most affordable of the German brands remains Impro.
